The National Trust celebrates the tenth anniversary of 'the fire that transformed Clandon'

On 29 April, on the tenth anniversary of the fire which gutted Clandon House, the National Trust said that it is ‘celebrating what has been revealed by the transformative fire’. The message acknowledges that the occasion is ‘tinged with sadness’, but the charity’s regret at having overseen the destruction of one of the most important eighteenth-century interiors in Europe is not so great as to get in the way of the ‘celebration’ of the anniversary of the ‘transformative’ fire.
“Today, 29th April is the tenth anniversary of the fire that transformed Clandon. We’re marking the day by celebrating 10 years of making at Clandon, sharing stories from the people who are bringing Clandon back to life.
Like many anniversaries, the day is a celebration tinged with a sadness still felt for what was lost. We’re celebrating what has been revealed by the transformative fire, and a community linked by a shared purpose to care for Clandon.”
